As part of their sponsorship of the FIFA Womens World Cup 2023, TAB wanted to bring a slice of magic to provincial NZ. With the tournament’s four host cities anchored to major metros, smaller cities and towns had limited exposure to this incredible festival of football. Further, the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne regions were still recovering from the devastating impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle. Creative agency Pitch Black concepted a one-of-a-kind retail experience; a portable sports store fully stocked with the latest adidas football kit; boots, jerseys, balls and training kits.
The eye-catching pop-up store made an extremely unexpected appearance on Gisborne Thistle AFC's main football field.
When the senior women's team showed up for their usual weekly practice, they discovered the new addition to their training facility. And the “kicker” - every item inside was free, courtesy of TAB.
Spur was brought in to manage sourcing and operational logistics around the “Free Kicks” pop-up.
